2. Requirements

You will need one of the following Macintosh models and video devices to turn a standard Macintosh computer into a playout server using the ToolsOnAir playout software.

Macintosh Model

Mac Pro, Mac mini, iMac1, MacBook Pro1, MacBook Air1.

RAM

At least 8 GB.

GPU 2

AMD, NVIDIA and Intel GPUs are supported. Please refer to the chapter "Supported GPUs" for further information.

Operating System

At least OS X 10.9.5 Administrator account required for installation and configuration.

Supported Video Devices

AJA and Blackmagic video device are supported. Please refer to the chapter "Supported Video Devices" for further information.

Optional

Sonnet (3rd gen) xMacTM mini Server, Sonnet RackMacTM Pro hardware and Netstor's NA381B.

 

1 Testing only. When using a Mac with a switchable graphics card make sure to change the graphics card setting in the "Energy Saver" preference pane to "Higher Performance".

2 Please consult the graphics card vendor or Apple for more information regarding the compatibility of your card.

 

  • Although it is possible to operate some Macs without a display attached to the graphics card, we strongly recommend to attach a display or an EDID/DDC emulator like this one: → Lindy EDID/DDC Emulator
  • In case you would like to stream the final output including the live incoming signal to your CDN, the built-in streaming engine cannot be used. We recommend to connect a Teradek 'VidiU' streaming device directly to the HDMI output of the AJA device used by just:out as the output device.
