13.18 Configuring Event Devices/Presets and Rules (v.5.x)
You must unlock the Just Control Configuration window and stop the channel(s) first to perform any changes.
It is possible to control ToolsOnAir’s just:in recording engines, 3rd party hardware devices such as Video Routers, Switchers, and GPI Devices, insert SCTE-104 triggers into the outgoing SDI signal, and send email notifications using the optional Events function. Before such a Device can be controlled, it must be configured in the Just Control Configuration panel first.
Devices:
Define Devices based on the hardware and software you would like to control.
Adding a Device
Stop the desired Channel by deactivating the checkbox in front of it. Stopping a Channel will also stop the Just Out engine and therefore the final output.
Select the Channel in the “Devices & Channels” list.
Click on the “Events” tab.
Device and protocol: Select the desired type of device/event here. Some Routers may use the same protocol but are from different manufacturers. Verify that you select a protocol that is supported by your Router or Production Switcher. If you are unsure about which protocol to use, ask the manufacturer or send a request to our support team. If a device supports only a certain setting, please contact the ToolsOnAir support team for assistance.
Timeout/Delay in seconds: For some Devices, a timeout can be defined.
Serial port: Select and configure a serial connection. Check the user manual of your Router to find more information about the proper settings. If you are unsure about which settings to use, consult the manufacturer of the hardware device.
Ethernet: Configures an Ethernet connection. If your device supports network communication, configure the Ethernet connection. This method is preferred and should be used whenever possible. If a Device supports only a certain setting, please contact the ToolsOnAir support team for assistance.
Click on the “Add…” button to add the selected device to the list of Current event devices of the Channel.
Save/Load (All) Preset: Each device has its ID which is used to identify the device in the Playlist XML. To transfer the Device ID to another system or to save it as a backup, the Device can be saved and loaded here.
If a listed device cannot be found, Just Out will try to access it for a minute during startup. During this time, Just Out will not play, but will resume playing once the timeout is over.
When adding a network-based device, you must make sure that the network used for the communication with the device is on the same network used for the ToolsOnAir internal communication.
Presets:
Define Presets (e.g. cross points, VANC triggers) using existing Devices.
Defining Presets for just:live, just:play, and Automated Failover Control
Stop the desired Channel by deactivating the checkbox in front of it. Stopping a Channel will also stop the Just Out engine and therefore the final output.
Select the Channel in the “Devices & Channels” list.
Click on the “Events” tab and verify that at least one Device is defined under “Type/Protocol”.
Click on the “Presets” tab.
Click on the “Add Preset” button to open the Preset configuration window.
Name the Preset: The preset name given here will appear in the “Event” tab in the Library of just:live/just:play later. Change the name here once you save a preset by clicking the “Add Preset” button. Otherwise, you will overwrite the previously saved Preset.
Add events: A Preset can consist of one or more Devices. For example, a Preset can switch several outputs on a Video Router, send one or more GPI Events, or even combine Video Router and GPI Events in a single Preset. Select a Device and click the “Add” button. Repeat this for all Devices you would like to use with this Preset.
Configure Events: Change the attributes that are provided by the Event.
Create Preset: When you have added all Events to the Preset, click the “Create Preset” button to create the Preset, which will automatically appear in the “Events” tab in the Library of just:live/just:play. You can then use the Preset(s).
Repeat steps 1 to 4 for every Preset you need. Once completed, click on the “Done” button.
Removing a Device or Preset
Stop the desired Channel by deactivating the checkbox in front of it. Stopping a Channel will also stop the Just Out engine and therefore the final output.
Select the Channel in the “Devices & Channels” list.
Click on the “Events” tab.
Click on the “Devices” or “Presets” tab.
Select the Device or Preset you would like to delete.
Press the “Backspace” key.
Confirm the warning dialog to remove the Event Device. This cannot be undone.
Activate the checkbox in front of the Channel to start the Channel and to take over the changes you just made.
The Channel will be removed from the Multi viewer interface, and you have to add it again by dragging and dropping the Channel to a Viewer.
Rules:
Define Rules based on a certain condition or time, using existing Presets. One Rule is the Automated Failover Control option, which controls your router/switcher based on the availability of the Primary or Redundant Just Out engine.
Defining Rules:
Click the “Add” button to add a new Rule to the already existing Failover rules.
Click on “New Rule” to give it a new name.
Define the Frequency:
Day: Allows to choose the “Days” of the week and the “Time”, this Rule should be executed.
Hour, Minute, Second: Allows you to pick the “Interval” this Rule should be executed.
Execution: Define, if Just Out or Just Connect should execute the Rule. Usually, the Just Out engine will be selected.
Event Presets: Click the “Add” button to add the Presets you would like to execute every time the Rule is released.
Removing a Rule
Make sure you have selected the proper Channel in the Channel List.
Go to the “Events” tab.
Click on the “Rules” tab.
Select the Rule you would like to delete.
Press the “Backspace” key.
Confirm the warning dialog to remove the Rule. This cannot be undone.
Failover:
Failover is only available if the Automated Failover Control option is activated for this Channel.
The Failover Frequency is always a “Condition” type
You can add all kinds of Events that will be executed every time the Primary or Redundant Just Out engine is on air, or in case no Just Out engine is running (Failover).
