[JIM] macOS Configuration (macOS Sequoia) v.2025.1

This chapter covers the general Operating System configuration to ensure a stable and operationally safe just:in mac 2025 environment.

Preface

Once the macOS installation has finished, install all updates which are available through Apple's Software Update System. To ensure a proper and stable setup, please configure the operating system of the machine(s) running the Just In Engine (Mac) application as described below.

Do not install any additional background applications that require intensive CPU access or Dashboard widgets, as they may interfere with the overall performance.

Apple Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere Pro on the same machine as the Just In Engine application

When you run Apple Final Cut Pro or Adobe Premiere Pro on the same machine as the Just In Engine application, please make sure that neither of these applications (Apple Final Cut Pro/Adobe Premiere Pro) request access to the video hardware, which is in use by the Just In Engine application. If that is the case, this can lead to unexpected behavior. If you need more information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

System Preferences

The System Settings may look differently on your system and may offer alternate functions, depending on the macOS version and the hardware you are using.

Battery / Battery Options

In the Battery panel, set “Low Power Mode” to “Never” and then click on the “Options…” button to open the Battery options panel. In this panel, set all options to either “Off” (sliders) or “Never”.

Screen Saver / Lock Screen Settings

Select the Screen Saver panel and click on the “Lock Screen Settings…” button to adjust the required settings.

Set the “Start Screen Saver when inactive”, “Turn display off on battery when inactive”, “Turn display off on power adapter when active” and “Require password after screen saver begins or display is turned off” settings to “Never”.

Network

Delete all unneeded network connections and change the order of the connections so that the IP address you are going to use for ToolsOnAir inter-application communication has the main priority.

Software Updates

Make sure your macOS system is up-to-date, then disable the automatic software update function.

Spotlight

We recommend disabling Spotlight indexing on any machine running Just In Engine (Mac) application.

Security & Privacy / Local Network Access

The new “Local Network” security feature in macOS Sequoia (15.x) enhances privacy and control by allowing users to manage which apps can access their local network. This feature addresses concerns over unmonitored network access, providing an extra layer of security by ensuring that only trusted applications have access to local network resources, such as printers, file-sharing devices, and other computers. In macOS Sequoia, users are prompted when an application attempts to access the local network for the first time, enabling them to allow or deny access (“System Settings → Privacy & Security → Local Network”).

When running the Just In Engine and Just Control applications for the first time on macOS Sequoia you will be asked to allow it to discover and connect to devices or other applications on your network. Please click on the “Allow” button to ensure that the communication between the Just In Engine and Just Control applications is guaranteed.

Additionally, please ensure that the Just In Engine application has “Full Disk Access” permissions to record to all kind of Local or Network Volumes (“System Settings → Privacy & Security Tab → Full Disk Access”). This setting is then also reflected in the “System Settings → Privacy & Security Tab” → Full Disk Access” panel.

AirDrop & Handoff / AirPlay Receiver

Make sure the “AirPlay Receiver” option is disabled, as it interferes with the internal network communication between the Just In Engine and Just Control applications.
