8. Using Moxa NPort 5650

This section describes how to set up the parameters for use with the Moxa NPort 5650 serial device server in combination with just:in multi and a Blackmagic DeckLink Quad video card in order to control tape decks over dedicated RS-422 connections. Please follow these steps:

1. Copy the contents of the “moxadaemin.zip” file (see page 4 for location) into /Applications/Just In/moxadeamon/. You might need to create the /moxadaemon directory ahead.

2. Launch Apple Terminal.app, type: defaults write com.toolsonair.justin moxa 1 and confirm with the Enter key.

3. Open the “moxattyd.cf” configuration file and add all needed ports by following this logic (we will define 4 channels and serial ports in this example):

  • ttyp1 <ip _ address _ moxa _ device> 950
  • ttyp2 <ip _ address _ moxa _ device> 951
  • ttyp3 <ip _ address _ moxa _ device> 952
  • ttyp4 <ip _ address _ moxa _ device> 953

4. Configure the serial port on the Moxa NPort 5650 device by opening a browser connection and entering the IP Address of the Moxa NPort 5650 device. Once the device’s homepage has been loaded, click on Serial Settings and the desired port to configure it by using the following parameters. Once done, click Submit to confirm your settings:

5. Launch the moxattyd daemon by entering the following commands in Terminal.app:

cd /Applications/Just\ In/moxadaemon/
./moxattyd

6. Open the Just In Con guration preference panel and allocate the selected channels to the configured serial ports. The ports numbering is always of a one-to-one type. You are now ready to use the serial connections.
