Users and Templates (5.1)
With just:in linux v5.0, the concepts of Users and Templates get introduced into the just:control application. You can create and use different Users and each of these Users can have multiple Templates. In just:control, you can save the connected Devices (=just:in linux servers) and the look and feel of the multi viewer.
With that said, you can have a Template A, which has the necessary Devices and multi viewer settings for Show/Production A and Template B for Show/Production B. And these Templates can be for a single Users or each User has a different Template. On this page you will learn how to create, adjust and save Users and Templates.
Create a new User and Template at startup
Upon the start of just:control you will be asked to Login with a specific Username, Password and Multi-viewer Layout Template.
Please note that Passwords are optional.
If you want to create a new User, enter a Username into the Username field and press the Login button. You will be asked, if you want to add a new User to the system. Press the Add button to proceed with this step.
Note that a new Template with the name Default will be created automatically for this new User. The name of this Template can be changed later (Preferences).
After that step, you can add a new or an existing Device for this new User and for the new Template. Enter the IP Address of a Device into the IP Address field and use the Connect button to move on.
Default Engine/Device Port is 5000.
You can see the current Port within the Engine Diagnostic Window as well (just:in mac only):
If you connect to a new Device, the Device Wizard will guide you through the set up process and if you connect to an existing Device, all available Channels will be connected to the multi viewer automatically. In the case below, two Channels (SRT 2 and NDI 3) got connected.
Since this is an already existing Device, you can start recording now or you can check and adjust the configuration of the Channels. All changes will be saved automatically for this Template. Note that you can see the Template name in the top bar of just:control.
Create a new Template for an existing User
You can create a new Template for the currently logged in User by going to the View Menu and using the New Multi Viewer Layout Template option (or use the keyboard shortcut: cmd, option, shift + T). Enter a name for this new Template and proceed with by clicking the Create button.
The settings of the previous Template will be copied to the new Template and you can start to modify it now. Add, remove or adjust Devices and set up the multi viewer area for the new Template. All changes will be saved automatically.
Switch to another Template
Switching to different Templates is possible at any time. Simply go to the Just Control Menu and use the Log Out Username option to go back to the Login screen of just:control. Here choose the appropriate Template and press the Login button to start working with the selected Template.
Modify existing Users and Templates
Existing Users and Templates can be modified within the Preferences of just:control. Make sure that you are logged in with a User and open the Preferences (Just Control Menu - Preferences… option or with the keyboard short cmd + ,) and switch to the Users tab.
Within the Users table on the left side you can see all existing Users for that machine and within the Multi viewer layouts table on the right side, you can display all existing Templates for the selected User. You can delete a Template or User by selecting the User or the Template and by pressing the Backspace key on your keyboard.
Config File
All of the just:control settings get saved in the com.toolsonair.Just-Control.plist file, which is located at “~/Library/Preferences/”. When copying this file, you can make sure that all of your just:control machines are using the same Users and Templates.
