7.10 Adding A Placeholder To A Playlist (v2.0)

In case a movie is not ready for play out but should be scheduled already, a Placeholder element can be used in the meantime. The default length of such an item is 30 seconds and can be modified using the inspector. Finally such am element has to be replaced by a real movie before it will be played out. There are several ways to add a Placeholder element to a schedule.

Placeholder elements can be added to a schedule using the Video track by drag and drop them into:

  • …an empty area in the calendar view. In this case, a playlist with the proper duration is automatically created with the element you have dropped in it.
  • an existing playlist in the calendar view. The element(s) will be added at the end of the playlist.
  • …an existing playlist in the workbench. Before dropping the element(s), its position is indicated by a small turquoise bar which appears between existing elements.
  • …a playlist in the timeline. Before dropping the element(s), its position is indicated by a small blue bar which appears between existing elements.

It is not possible to add a placeholder element to the rundown whose drop point is in the past. This would change the current playout and will therefore be rejected. A warning will be shown instead.

PLACEHOLDER element replacement

Before the movie is available by:

  • typing in the name of the movie including the file extension into the "Name" field of the inspector. Once available, the movie must be placed into one of the root repository folders (not into a sub folder) defined for the channel. After that, please use the "Refresh Playlist" function to link the placeholder with the movie and to reflect the change in the just:play user interface.

Once available you can replace the Placeholder with the movie by:

  • dropping a movie from the library directly onto a placeholder clip in the workbench. In case the length of the movie does not match the length defined for the placeholder clip, a warning will be shown which informs that the start time of the following movies will be adjusted. Click "OK" to add the movie to the rundown which automatically adjusts the start time of the following items up to the next timed playlist. Clicking "Cancel" will bring you back to the unchanged, previous state.
