Supported Protocols

NFS

  • Data throughput limited to 1 Gbit.

  • Windows clients need to enable NFS, macOS and Linux/Unix clients have it enabled by default.

SMB

  • Data throughput of up to 10 Gbit.

  • Any current operating system can connect via SMB.

  • macOS and Final Cut Pro have optimised their protocol implementations for SMB.

  • Extended Attributes are supported.

Final Cut Pro Projects Media Files Handling

We suggest not using projects with integrated media files (i.e. using the Copy to library option in the Import window) as it makes data centralizing more difficult.

Use dedicated Sharepoints to store your media- and project files instead.

When storing your Final Cut Pro projects on just:store, we suggest using the Leave files in place option in the Final Cut Pro Import window. This allows for a central location of your media- and project files on just:store.

Switching from a running NFS-based Setup to a SMB-based Setup

SMB is a widely-supported and modern protocol, so you may want to switch from NFS to SMB. Please make sure to follow these instructions before doing so.

  • Create a ticket in our support system so we can configure your just:store system to use SMB. We have to change permissions of the data which is created on NFS for SMB to allow the update and deletion process of files or directories.

  • Please update your Final Cut Pro to the latest tested version (as listed above) to avoid any symbolic link issues which result in projects which can't be opened.
