The number of channels that qualified Apple hardware can record depends on the format, framerate, selected codec, the speed of the storage, and the number of CPU cores available. For multi-channel recording on a single machine we therefore recommend the highest specified CPU currently available and a storage device able to read and write at least twice the theoretical data rate required by the specific codec multiplied by the number of channels being recorded.
For example, recording high definition 1080i50 streams in Apple ProRes HQ would require an Apple Mac Pro or Apple Mac mini with the minimum specifications stated below:

If you are having trouble to determine the Model Identifier, then click on the Apple Menu on the appropriate Mac and select “About This Mac” while pressing the “Option/Alt” key. The System Profiler will shows up and display data relevant to your machine.
