Network Topologies (just:store v3.0)

Table of Contents

Preface

There are many possibilities how you can setup your network and integrate just:store. Below you can see the types of network topologies which just:store allows you to connect the clients.
We suggest not to mix 1Gbit and 10Gbit connections in the same network. This can cause multiple issues and slow down the just:store or even worse breaks connections.

We suggest not to set multiple network interfaces with the same IP-Address or Subnet.
For example, you shouldn't set em1 to 172.16.33.17 and em2 to 172.16.33.100. This can cause speed problems and connection timeouts.

Direct Connection

In this case every client is connected to a network interface port of the just:store system. So every client has a dedicated connection to just:store.

Connection over Switch/Router

This topology is for a higher number of clients which all should be connected to just:store via a single connection to a 10G Switch. The switch is connected to the internet over a firewall. From the switch every client is connected either by 10 Gbit or 1 Gbit depends on the switch. Don't mix 1Gbit and 10Gbit connections so the settings for 10Gbit can't be set and leads to issues.

Connection over Switch/Router using Link Aggregation / Bonding

This topology is for a higher number of clients which all should be connected to just:store via a 10G switch that uses a bond connection. Using bonding either allows you to have a more secure connection (in case one connection breaks) or a faster connection. The switch is connected to the internet over a firewall. From the switch every client is connected either by 10 Gbit or 1 Gbit.

(In)Direct Connection

This topology is for a lower number of clients which all should be connected to just:store. Here is a multiple connection to the 10G Switch. In this case the switch and the just:store has routes defined. So just:store sends packages to the switch and the switch sends to the packages. With this setting you can connect the switch with one single network interface port. And the clients with the switch. On just:store routes will be defined, so that every client has a dedicated connection and can't communicate with other clients. From the switch every client is connected either by 10 Gbit or 1 Gbit.
