The Inspector is used:

• to select the Capture Mode and Channel Settings such as Naming Presets, Event Presets, Metadata Sets, Capture- and Destination-Presets (“Settings” tab)

• to create and adjust Channel Groups (“Groups” tab)

• to connect Channels to the Channel Viewer Area (“Connections” tab)

• to set Adobe Premiere Pro Markers (“Markers” tab)

This chapter explains all Inspector options and shows how the Inspector changes depending on the currently selected Capture Mode.

Overview

The “Settings” tab of the Inspector changes depending on the Capture Mode. The following screenshot shows the “Settings” tab of the Inspector when using the Crash Capture Mode. Most of the settings are the same for other Capture Modes.

Open

1. Inspector Tabs: select the appropriate tab here.

   1. Settings: general Tab for settings like File Naming, Timecode Source, Metadata, Capture- and Destination-Presets, etc.

   2. Groups: the “Groups” tab can be used for creating/adjusting Channel Groups.

   3. Connections: within the “Connections” tab all available Devices/Channels are displayed.

   4. Markers: the “Markers” tab displays all available Marker Presets for the selected Channel, which can be used to add Markers to Recordings, which are available within Adobe Premiere Pro after the recording.

2. Channel Name: displays the Name of the selected Channel.

3. Channel Mode Selection: displays the current Channel Mode (Batch, Crash or Schedule) of the selected Channel. You can switch the Channel Mode here as well (that is only possible while the Channel is in idle mode).

4. Clip:

   1. Naming Preset: select one of the available Naming Presets for the selected Channels.

   2. Name/Variables: depending on the selected Naming Preset the available variables may differ. In this picture, there's only one Variable called "Name".

   3. Resulting Filename: shows the resulting filename based on the variables of the selected Naming Preset. The filename used for the recorded video files may be different if the filename already exists on the given recording path.

5. Timecode:

   1. Timecode: select a Timecode Source (Computer Time, LTC over Audio, Capture card LTC, SDI Embedded).

   2. Offset: This setting can be used to set a Timecode offset. As soon as you add a value here, the Timecode display changes accordingly.

   3. Stop on Timecode: Set a Timecode where to stop the current ongoing Recording. Please note, that you have to enable the option “Enable Stop on Timecode” separately.

6. Events: within the Event Section you can select a previously created Event Preset, which can be executed at Start, Split or End of a Recording.

7. Metadata:

   1. Metadata Set: here you can select a Metadata set. This provides several predefined Metadata fields.

   2. Writes at: select whether the Metadata should be written at the Start or at the End of a Recording.

8. Audio Monitor: you can listen to the Audio Channels of the incoming Signal to preview the audio in addition to the video preview. This is for previewing only and will not replace a hardware device to check the audio quality or A/V synchronisation.

   1. Enabling/Disabling a Single Audio Channel: click on the desired Audio Channel to enable/disable the Audio Preview.

   2. Enabling/Disabling all Audio Channels: hold the “Option-Key” while clicking on any Audio Channel to enable/disable the Audio Preview for all incoming Audio Channels.

9. Errors and Warnings: if there are any errors and/or warnings, they will be displayed in this section. You can either use the “Clear all” button to clear Errors/Warnings manually, or this section will be cleared automatically at every recording start.

10. Capture IDs: add or remove Capture IDs by using the "Plus/Minus" buttons.

    1. Capture Preset: select one of the available Capture Presets. 

    2. Destination Preset: select one of the available Destination Presets.

11. Inspector Bottom Bar: Use the dropdown box to select available Groups.

Batch and Schedule Mode

Some sections of the Inspector change depending on the selected Capture Mode. Please have a look at the screenshots showing the Inspector in either Batch Mode (left) or Schedule Mode (right).

Open

In Batch Mode, it is possible to control a Tape Machine connected via the RS-422 port of a video device. Then you can set multiple “In” or “Outpoint” and by pressing on the “Record” button, just:in mac records the selected parts from the inserted tape.

When a Channel is in Schedule Mode, you will see a “Schedule” section, instead of the “Clip” section in Crash Mode. The examples show some recording events scheduled for the next 24 hours. In Schedule Mode there is no record button available as recording will start and stop automatically according to the Start- and End-time of Calendar events. In Just Control you can use any Calendar, which can be imported to the Apple Calendar application. This can be a local Calendar, an iCloud, or Gmail Calendar.
