  • NDI channels now correctly process interlaced streams.

  • Fixed a bug that meant naming conventions could not be removed (they were shown as removed in just:control, but appeared again once just:in engine was re-started).

  • When adding capture, destination, naming or metadata presets in just:control, they are automatically shown in inspector for the selected channel instead of having to restart just:control or select “-“ in the dropdown menu to reload them.

  • Fixed an issue causing significantly higher CPU usage for certain capture presets.

Just In 5.0.0.B1.989 Release Notes

  • This is a 5.0.0 Beta pre-release.

  • Apple have removed support for 32-bit Apps and, as a consequence, for the QuickTime framework. Apple's replacement for QuickTime, AVFoundation, does not support the full range of codecs that were available with QuickTime. If you had an older version of just:in installed, any capture presets using QuickTime will be automatically upgraded to us AVFoundation, assuming an equivalent is available. Some capture presets may therefore no longer be available after installing this version. A full list of the codecs and any other features affected by the switch to 64-bit will be made available by ToolsOnAir in due course.

  • This version requires a new 5.0 license code, invalidating any older 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5 or 4.0 license codes. If you already have a valid license code for an older version, please contact ToolsOnAir for a new code before installing this build.

  • The configuration of just:in mac engine (channel configuration, capture presets, destination presets, naming conventions, metadata sets and activation) has moved from the engine App to the user interface (just:control App). To configure an engine, start just:control and select "Manage Connections" from the "View" menu.

  • Fixed an issue after connecting to a channel initially in “Scheduled” recording mode and then switching to “Crash” recording mode where the “Naming” group in the channel’s inspector did not show the available naming presets.

  • Incoming SDI color metadata (e.g. UHD SDR/HDR) are now read with AJA and Blackmagic devices and respected when encoding.

  • Fixed a bug recording p25 or i25 NDI sources where the recorded file reported an incorrect frame-rate.

  • Updated the license protection “blips” with 2021 Tools On Air logos.

  • An error is now reported in just:control after trying to record with a capture preset when the given encoder is not installed on the system running just:in.

  • When recording UHD into a MOV container the correct metadata is now written to the file regarding color space (BT.2020 instead of BT.709).

  • It is now possible to disconnect a channel in the multi-viewer that was connected to a channel that was already in use by another user (viewer has the status “IN USE”).

  • Stability improvements when using NDI channels.

  • The current configuration for NDI channels (e.g. capture, destination and naming presets) are now correctly saved between sessions (quitting and re-starting just:in engine).

  • Fixed a bug that resulted in incorrect computer timecode when using NDI channels.

  • Fixed crashes when writing to an invalid path or after a fallback due to slow storage.

  • Removed unsupported “psf” and “RGBA” modes.

  • Disabled the “end-to-end SDI” checkbox in the channel settings for all devices other than AJA.

  • Fixed a bug that resulted in an “empty” multi-viewer layout after upgrading from just:in mac 4.0.

  • When logging into just:control for a user without any device connections defined, only the “splash” welcome screen is now displayed, and now the previous multi-viewer layout in the background.

  • When creating a new NDI channel for just:in mac, the initial recording mode is now “Crash” instead of “Batch”, and the “Batch” recording mode is greyed out as it is not supported by NDI channels.

  • When recording with a H.264 capture preset, an error is now shown in just:control if no hardware encoder was available and a software encoder is being used instead as a software encoder will usually result in significantly less performance.

  • Added system-standard keyboard shortcuts for entering full-screen, switching to the next and previous tab.

To configure an engine, start just:control and select "Manage Connections" from the "View" menu.

  • When creating a new multi-viewer layout template or logging out the current user in just:control, any changes to the current layout template are first saved.

  • There is a new preference in just:control to automatically log in the previous user instead of showing the log in splash screen. This option is only available for users that do not have a password defined.

  • When logging out the current user in just:control, or changing the user's name, any previously entered password is now cleared.

  • During log in and device configuration, the inspector is disabled and cannot be opened. When logging out the current user, the inspector is automatically closed.

  • Fixed an issue using the cmd-R keyboard shortcut or "Toggle Recording" menu item.

  • The main window's title now shows the name of the current multi-viewer layout template.

  • When a just:in mac or linux device goes "offline" (e.g. after a crash or quit), just:control no longer switches to the "Connecting..." screen. Instead, the individual channels show a "Disconnected" status.

  • When connecting via the initial setup splash screen, selecting "Cancel" in the device setup wizard now results in just:control quitting.

  • Fixed a bug that prevented devices being removed correctly in the configuration panel.

  • Groups, selection and inspector open/closed state are now stored per-user.

  • Resolved a bug connecting to a device in the initial setup splash screen after entering an IP address where the entered address reverted to the previously entered value.

  • There is a new "Users" tab in just:control's preferences panel that allows use to remove users, set passwords and remove or rename multi viewer layouts.

  • The initial setup splash screen now has the local IP address as the default value instead of "localhost". This is because using "localhost" can result in connection issues later connecting from remote systems.

  • This version of just:control now supports multiple users and user switching. When you start just:control you will see a log-in screen allowing you to enter username, an optional password and a layout template. By default, the username will be the currently logged macOS user. If you have been using previous versions of just:in and just:control, you can probably simply click "Login" to create a new user with your current login name. Once you have logged in (and assuming you have previously logged in as this user) you will see the selected multi-viewer layout. The "Just Control" menu has an additional "Log Out ..." menu item that will disconnect all channels and devices and return you to the log-in screen where you can select a different user, or the same user with a different layout template. The "Channels" menu now includes a "New Multi-viewer Layout Template" menu item that allows you to duplicate the current layout template with a new name. Any changes to this layout (e.g. split or join channels, connect new channels) will be made to this new template, so logging out and selecting the previous layout template will return you to the previous layout. This allows you to create different layouts that you can quickly switch between depending on your current job.

  • Fixed a bug that allowed invalid timecodes to be entered for channels using 59.94 drop-frame timecode.
