Capture Presets define the output format of a Recording (codec, container, resolution, audio channels, etc.). Before you can start recording with the Just In Mac Lite NDI application, you need to create one or multiple Capture Presets. After defining the Capture Preset(s), you can quickly access them in the Just In Mac Lite NDI Channel Inspector. This accelerates the recording process and helps to keep things organised.

To perform any changes within the Just In Mac Lite NDI Configuration panel, you have to unlock the panel first.

Overview

Open the Just In Mac Lite NDI Configuration panel, select the Device, and switch to the “Capture Presets” tab.

  1. Capture Preset List: shows all available Capture Presets. Use the buttons below to add and remove Capture Presets. Double-click on a Capture Preset Name to adjust the Preset Name.

  2. Capture Preset Configuration Options: Set the required options for a Capture Preset:

Add a Capture Preset

Apple ProRes

When creating an Apple ProRes-based Capture Preset, you have to select the Frame rate and Resolution, after selecting the related codec option.

Audio Channels and Audio Track Alignment

You can choose between “2”, “4”, “8” and “16” Audio Channels for “Capture Presets”. Some configurations may require an Audio Track Alignment setting as well.

note

Please note, that some codec/container options allow only “2”, “4” or “8” Audio channels as options.

H.264 Settings

When creating an H.264 Capture Preset, you have to select “H.264” specific settings.

note

Note that “Custom” has to be selected as the “TV-Norm”, when working with “H.264” presets.

Note that “Custom” has to be selected as the “TV-Norm”, when working with “H.264” presets.

There are different values and settings that can be customized within an “H.264 Capture” preset. Initially, the container type can be selected. There are two options available:

H.264 is a complex codec standard and is a bit more tedious to set up. Therefore, just:in mac lite NDI 2025 provides various options, that can be modified within an “H.264 preset”. After choosing the container type, you have to define two general settings:

Next, select the aimed “H.264 profile” and choose between multiple encoder profile options. Then you can set the Bitrate in bit/s, B-Frames, the GOP-Size, and the Entropy Mode.

Please note that some Mac Models have a built-in H.264 hardware encoder, which just:in mac lite NDI 2025 can use for the H.264 encoding process. This happens automatically when working with an H.264 Capture Preset. If you are using a Mac without such an H.264 encoder, you will see a warning message in the Errors and Warnings Section within the Inspector.

Growing Files

just:in mac lite NDI 2025 supports growing files (for macOS and Windows-based NLEs) with various formats. If you have specific needs or questions, please do not hesitate to contact us. When working with Adobe Premiere Pro as your NLE of choice, please refer to this Adobe Knowledge-base article as well.

DaVinci Resolve

When using Blackmagic Design’s DaVinci Resolve, working with growing files is partially possible as well, but only when using direct-attached storage and with specific codec/container combinations. Tests with network-attached storage showed inconsistent behavior, and therefore it is not recommended. Please do not hesitate to contact us, to get additional information or to discuss your recording and editing workflow when using DaVinci Resolve 18.6.x and 19.x.

Although the Just In Mac Lite NDI application generates correct and standard-compliant Growing files, there’s currently an issue with parsing them correctly within DaVinci Resolve resulting in the non-continuous display of the audio waveform. This means that editors cannot hear any audio after a short amount of time when a growing file in a MOV container is imported into DaVinci Resolve. This issue is unfortunately out of our control and has been reported to the DaVinci team to be reviewed.

You can download a PDF document describing the “Supported Formats and Codecs” from the Blackmagic Design homepage (URL may change over time):
