Capture Presets set the output format of a Recording (codec, container, resolution, audio channels, etc.). Before you can start Recordings with just:control, you have to create one or multiple Capture Presets. After defining Capture Presets you can quickly access them in the just:control configuration panel. This speeds up the Recording process and helps keeping things organized.

To make any changes within the Configuration Panel, you have to unlock the panel first.

Overview

Open the Configuration Panel, select a Device (just:in linux engine) and switch to the Capture Presets Tab.

  1. Capture Preset List: shows all available Capture Presets. Use the buttons below to add and remove Capture Presets. Double-click on a Capture Preset Name to adjust the Preset Name.

  2. Capture Preset Configuration Options: Set options for a Capture Preset.

Capture Presets marked in red are indicate a mismatch between the Capture Preset frame rate and the Device frame rate. When using such Capture Preset the recorded files will be converted to the selected frame rate of the Capture Preset (JIL only).

Add a Capture Preset

In the Device & Channel List select a Device. Click on the Capture Presets tab and press the "Plus" button to add a new Preset.

A new window appears, where you have to enter the Name of the new Capture Preset. Press the Create button to go back to the Preset option.

Next configure the new Capture Preset. It will be saved automatically after all options are set.

Edit an existing Capture Preset

Select an existing Capture Preset and change the options on the right side. The changes will be saved automatically (Changes: Audio Channels, Audio mapping and Do not write captions to container).

Remove a Capture Preset

Select an existing Capture Preset and use the "Minus"-Button below the Capture Preset list to remove the selected Capture Preset.

Apple ProRes & Avid DNxHD/HR

When creating an Apple ProRes or Avid DNxHD/HR based Capture Preset you have to select the Frame rate and Resolution, after selecting the codec option.

Audio Channels and Audio Track Alignment

You can choose between 2, 4, 8 and 16 Audio Channels for Capture Presets. Some configurations may require an Audio Track Alignment setting as well.

Audio Mapping

The Audio Mapping feature enables the possibility to adjust the output mapping for the recorded video files of the incoming audio channels in a very simple way.

H.264 Settings (JIL)

When creating a h.264 Capture Preset you have to select h.264 specific settings.

Therefore just:in linux provides various options, which can be modified within a h.264 preset. After choosing the container type you have to define two general settings:

Next you have to select the h.264 profile. Here you can choose between multiple encoder profile options. Then you can set the encoder speed option and the Bitrate in bit/s.

Please beware that some Mac Models have a built-in h.264 hardware encoder, which just:mac can use for the h.264 encoding process. This happens automatically, when working with a h.264 Capture Preset. If you are using a Mac without such a h.264 encoder, you will see a warning message in the Errors and Warnings Section within the Inspector.

Burnt-in-timecode

With this feature (just:in linux only) it is possible to burn in the current timecode into the recorded video files. You can adjust the size (Timecode Size) and the position (Vertical (Y) offset from bottom) of the burnt-in-timecode.

Overlay logo

The logo overlay feature (just:in linux only) can be used for adding an image or logo on the top of the recorded video files. This feature works similar to the burnt-in timecode option and can be enabled for any Capture Preset.

Image Path: here you have to enter the path to the image/logo (Linux OS path).

Top Position: pixels from the top of the video file.

Left Position: pixels from the left of the video file.

Opacity: choose a value between 0 and 1 (0.5 for instance).
