Introduction
Once the just:in linux appliance is installed and set up (power, network, video signals) correctly, it is possible to connect to the just:in linux server and to start with the initial setup. To achieve that, the following steps are required:
Check the IP-Address, which will be used for the communication between the just:in linux server and the macOS-based Just Control application.
Install Just Control on a macOS-based client system, which has access to the just:in linux appliance (via the network).
Establish the connection to the just:in linux appliance with the macOS-based Just Control client application.
IP-Address
Generally, the just:in linux appliance has multiple network connections. One is for communication purposes, such as interacting with Just Control and another one will be used for the storage system connection. To access the just:in linux server with the macOS-based Just Control application, the IP Address of the communication port is required (the “em1” Ethernet interface is normally used for that purpose).
Please contact your network administrator or either your local ToolsOnAir VAR or the ToolsOnAir team, if you do not know the current IP Address of the just:in linux server.
Installation (Just Control)
The macOS based Just Control application can be found on the internal just:in linux RAID or by contacting the ToolsOnAir support team, by creating a support ticket.
Should temporarily no internet connection be available, copy the macOS-based Just Control application from the internal just:in linux RAID to the macOS “Applications” folder. To do so, mount the internal just:in linux RAID on a macOS-based system (via “Finder -> Go -> Connect to Server” or with the Finder keyboard shortcut “Command-K”). Type in the IP Address of the just:in linux appliance, enter the credentials (User: justin, Password: justin), and select the tools share point. The Just Control application can be found here.
Alternatively, you can access the just:in linux appliances via ssh to copy the Just Control client application. The internal RAID is mounted at the following path.
# internal raid /media/internal_raid/ # just:control application /media/internal_raid/tools
If there is no Just Control disk image on the internal RAID, please create a ticket in the ToolsOnAir Support System.
Usage (Just Control)
Go to the macOS “Applications” folder and open Just Control application. Press the “Login” button to continue.
Enter the IP Address of the just:in linux appliance and press the “Connect” button to start the Setup Wizard.
Choose “Configure device with the detected physical input(s)” and press the “Scan” button to display the available SDI or HDMI inputs.
When working with an IP-only input on the just:in linux appliance, please select “Configure device for streaming inputs (e.g. NDI, SRT) with the following format”.
Then select the Video Mode (SDI (AJA)) and the Video Format (e.g. 1080i25) for the Device Inputs. Enter the Device Name and Channel Name, as well as the Default Storage Path. These settings can be changed later again if needed. As a last step, filter the available Capture Presets and select at least one of the available presets. To finish the setup process, press the “Configure” button.
After a few seconds, all available inputs will be connected to the multi-viewer and if there is a valid signal on the SDI inputs, the channel viewer(s) display the video, audio, and timecode previews.
The Channel(s) are now ready for recording. Move the mouse into a Channel Viewer and press the “Record” button to start the Recording. Press the same button again to stop the Recording.
Select two or more channels to start/stop recording for multiple channels.
