Assigning an existing Engine to a Layer

It is possible to assign an existing engine to one or several Layers of a Channel. This is useful in situations where a new Layer is added to an existing Channel, or in case the redundancy option has been acquired.

Before proceeding you must stop the channel by deactivating the checkbox in front of it. Stopping the channel will also stop the Just Out engine and therefore the final output.

  1. Select the Channel in the Devices & Channel window.

  2. Click on the Layers & Engines tab.

  3. Select an existing engine, click on Select engine… and choose the engine you would like to assign to this Layer.

  4. Repeat these steps for each Layer which has no engine assigned.

One Just Out instance can only be assigned to one Channel (except for the engine which is assigned as a redundant engine of a Channel using N+1 redundancy) and only as either Primary or Redundant engine, not both.

Changing the Engine assigned to a Layer

It is possible to change the Engine which is assigned to the Layer of an Engine. This is useful in following situations:

  • You would like to use another Engine than the one currently used for the final output, because the machine hosting the current Engine is broken or graphics should be added to the final output using a second machine (load balancing).

  • Several Channels need to be controlled from a single user interface (just:live user interface only).

  1. Select the Channel in the Devices & Channels window.

  2. Activate the Layers & Engines tab.

  3. If required, add and configure a new Engine like described before.

  4. Click on an existing Engine and choose the Engine you would like to assign to this Layer instead.

To be able to change an Engine, the currently used Engine as well as the new Engine must be shut down beforehand.

Removing an Engine from a Layer

It is possible to remove an engine from a single Layer or from all Layers of a Channel. This is useful in situations where an existing engine will be replaced by a new engine running on another hardware.

  1. To remove an engine permanently, select the Channel in the Devices & Channels window.

  2. Activate the Layers & Engines tab.

  3. Select an existing engine and choose Remove engine from Layer or Remove engine from all Layers.

  • Once an engine has been removed, you should assign a new engine to the Layer or remove the Layer from the Channel.

  • Activate the checkbox in front of the channel to start the channel and to take over the changes you made.

  • The channel will be removed from the multi viewer interface and you have to add it to a viewer again by drag and drop of the channel to a viewer

  • No labels
