With just:in linux v5.0, the The concepts of Users and Templates get introduced into the just:control application. were introduced in Just Control as of just:in mac v.5.0.

You can create and use different Users and each of these Users can have multiple Templates. In just:control Just Control, you can save the connected Devices (=just:in linux serversmac engines) and the look and feel of the multi-viewer (Channel Viewer Area).

With that said, you can have a Template A, which has the necessary Devices and multi-viewer settings for Show/Production A, and Template B for Show/Production B. And these These Templates can be for a single Users or each User has a different Template. On this page applied either to a Single User or to different Users. In this chapter, you will learn how to create, adjust and save Users and Templates.

Create a new User and Template at startup

Upon the start of just:control Just Control you will be asked to Login with for a specific Username, Password, and Multi-viewer Layout Template.

Please note that:

  • Passwords are optional

  • The Login Process can be disabled completely, if needed (Just Control Preferences)

If you want to create a new User, enter a Username into the Username field and press the Loginbutton. You will be asked , if you want would like to add a new User to the system. Press the Addbutton to proceed with this step.

Note that a new Template with the name Default will be created automatically for this new User. The name of this Template can be changed later (Just Control Preferences).

After that this step, you can add a new or an existing Device for this new User and for the new Template. Enter the IP Address of a Device into the IP Address field and use the Connect button to move onproceed.

The Default Engine/Device Port is 5000.

You can see the current Port within the Engine Diagnostic Window as well (just:in mac only):.

If you connect to a new Device, the Device Wizard will guide you through the set up setup process and if you connect to an existing Device, all available Channels will be connected to the multi-viewer area automatically. In the case example below, two Channels (SRT 2 and NDI 3VD_1 and VD_2) got connected.

Since this is an already existing Device, you can either start recording now instantly or you can check and adjust the configuration of the Channels. All changes will be saved automatically for this Template. Note that you can see the Template name in the top bar of just:control Just Control.

Create a new Template for an existing User

You can create a new Template for the currently logged-in User by going to the View View” Menu and using the New Multi Viewer Layout Template option (or use i.e. the keyboard shortcut: cmd, option, shift Cmd-Option-Shift + T). Enter a name for this new Template and proceed with by clicking on the Createbutton.

Note that the Template name changes to the new Template in the top bar of just:control Just Control.

The settings of the previous Template will be copied to the new Template and you can start to modify it now. Add, remove, or adjust Devices and set up the multi-viewer area for the new Template. All changes will be saved automatically.

Please note:

  • Template changes will be saved when Just Control gets quit.

  • New Templates are available after restarting Just Control.

Switch to another Template

Switching to different Templates is possible at any time. Simply go to the Just Control MenuControl” menu and use the Log Out Username Username” option to go back to the Login screen of just:control. Here choose Just Control. Choose the appropriate Template and press the Loginbutton to start working with apply and use the selected Template.

If you change the Username here, you will see different Multi-viewer Layout Templates.

Modify existing Users and Templates

Existing Users and Templates can be modified within the Preferences of just:control Just Control. Make sure that you are logged in with a User and open the Preferences (Just Control Menu - Preferences… Preference option or with the keyboard short cmd shortcut “Cmd + ,) and switch to the Users tab.

Note

You have to authorise yourself before doing making any changes.

Within the Users table on the left-hand side, you can see all existing Users for that machine, and within the Multi viewer layouts table on the right side, you can display all existing Templates for the selected User. You can delete a Template or User by selecting the User or the Template and by pressing the Backspacekey on your keyboard.

You cannot delete the currently logged-in User and Template.

Config File

All of the just:control Just Control settings get saved in the com.toolsonair.Just-Control.plist file, which is located at “~/Library/Preferences/”. When copying this file, you can make sure that all of your just:control Just Control machines are using the same Users and Templates.
