It is possible to control 3rd party hardware devices like Video Routers, Switchers and GPI Devices, as well as insert SCTE104 triggers and send eMail notifications using the optional Events function. Before such a device can be controlled, it must be configured in Just Control first. After that the crosspoints can be defined in the user interfaces.

Adding a Device

  1. Stop the desired Channel by deactivating the checkbox in front of it. Stopping a Channel will also stop the Just Out engine and therefore the final output.

  2. Select the Channel in the Devices & Channels list.

  3. Click on the Events tab.

  4. Event device Device and protocol: Select the desired type of Routerdevice/event here. Some Routers may use the same protocol but are from different manufacturers. Make sure to select a protocol which is supported by your Router. If you are unsure about which protocol to use, ask the manufacturer or send a request to our support system. If a device supports only a certain setting please contact ToolsOnAir for assistance.

  5. Timeout/Delay in seconds: For some devices a timeout can be defined here.

  6. Serial port: Select and configure a serial connection. Check the user manual of your Router to find more information about the proper settings. If you are unsure about which settings to use, ask the manufacturer of the hardware device.

  7. Ethernet: Configures an Ethernet connection. If your device supports network communication, configure the Ethernet connection here. This method is preferred and should be used whenever possible. If a device supports only a certain setting please contact ToolsOnAir for assistance.

  8. Click on the Add… button to add the selected device to the list of Currently event devices of the Channel.

  1. Save/Load Preset: Each device has its own ID which is used to identify the device in the playlist XML. To transfer the device ID to another system or to save it as a backup, the device can be saved and loaded here.

  • In case a device which is listed here cannot be found, Just Out will try to access it for a minute during startup. During this time, Just Out will not play but will resume playout once the timeout is over.

  • When adding a network based device you must make sure that the network used for the communication with the device is the same network used for the ToolsOnAir internal communication.

Removing an Event Device

  1. Select the desired Channel.

  2. Go to the Events tab.

  3. Select the Event Device in the Currently event devices list on the right.

  4. Press the backspace key.

  5. Accept the warning dialog to remove the Event Device. This cannot be undone.

  • The channel will be removed from the multi viewer interface and you have to add it to a viewer again by drag and drop of the channel to a viewer

Adding Crosspoints in just:live or just:play

  1. Start Just Control and there a just:live or just:play user interface.

  2. Go to the Event tab in the the Library.

  2. Select the Channel in the Devices & Channels list.

  3. Click on the Events tab and make sure, that at least one Device is defined under Type/Protocol.

  4. Click on the Presets tab.

  5. Click on Add Preset to open the Preset configuration window.

  6. Name the Preset: The preset name given here will appear in the Event tab in the Library of just:live/just:play later. Change the name here once you saved a preset by clicking the Create Add Preset button, otherwise you will overwrite the previously saved preset.

  7. Add Eventsevents: A preset Preset can consist of one or more Events Devices. For example, a preset can switch several outputs on a Video Router, or send one or more GPI Events, or even combine Video Router and GPI Events in a single preset. Available Events: This is the list of available Events which are depending on the selected just:out preferences fileSelect a Device and click Add. Repeat this for all Devices you would like to use with this Preset.

  8. Configure Events: Here you change the attributes which are provided by the Event.

  9. Create Preset: When you have added all Events to the preset, click the Create Preset button to create the preset which will automatically appear in the Events tab in the Library of just:live/just:play. You can then use the preset(s).

Repeat steps 1 to 4 for each preset you need. When you are finished click the Done button.

  5. Select the Device or Preset you would like to delete.

  6. Press the backspace key.

  7. Accept the warning dialog to remove the Event Device. This cannot be undone.
