General Requirements and Prerequisites

Unpacking, Connecting the Cables and Powering up your just:store Storage Solution

Your just:store storage solution will be delivered pre-configured with basic network settings, a temporary software license to access the administration user interface and a fully functional RAID volume – either RAID 5, RAID 6 or RAID 60, depending on your just:store configuration.

Please proceed as follows:

  1. Unpack your just:store storage solution, apply the mounting rails and install it in your rack.

  2. At the backside of the just:store system, connect the power cords as well as the required network cables, as described below.

  3. Press the red power button on the front panel to start your just:store system. The boot process might require some time.

Network Design Considerations

One of the strengths of the just: store storage solution is the ability to connect to multiple and varied network topologies at the same time. Below you can see all tested network topologies.

Direct Connection

  • Every client is connected to a network interface port of the just:store system.

  • As every client has a dedicated connection to just:store, every client is allowed to have a different network speed.

  • We suggest using this topology for editing, playout and ingest workstations to get the maximum performance for each client computer.

...

Connection over Switch/Router

  • This topology is for a higher number of clients which all connect to just:store via a single connection to a 10 Gbit switch.

  • The switch may connect to the internet over a firewall.

  • Every client is connected either by 1 Gbit or 10 Gbit to the switch.

  • We suggest using this topology for playout, ingest and editing workstations with less data throughput.

Connection over Switch/Router using Link Aggregation/Bonding

  • This topology is for a higher number of clients which all connect to just:store via a bonded connection to a 10 Gbit switch.

  • Bonding either allows you to have a more secure connection (in case one connection breaks) and/or a faster connection.

  • The switch may connect to the internet over a firewall.

  • Every client is connected either by 1 Gbit or 10 Gbit to the switch. Do not mix 1 Gbit and 10 Gbit interfaces.

  • We suggest using this topology for a numerous playout, ingest and editing workstations. Please keep in mind that the bond configuration will have a maximal available bandwidth which depends on the configuration.

...

(In)Direct Connection

  • This topology is for a lower number of clients which all connect to just:store.

  • In this case, we are using multiple 10 GBit connections to the switch, which are shown as colored lines in the figure below. You can also use 1 Gbit connections.

  • just:store has routes defined, i.e. it sends network packets to the switch and the switch sends the packets to their destination. The just:store marks the destination of each packet so it acts like direct connections with less maximum network bandwidth.

  • With this setup, you connect a switch to a single network interface port of the just:store system. Clients are connected to the switch. On just:store routes will be defined, resulting in a dedicated connection for each client, so they cannot communicate with each other.

  • Every client is connected either by 1 Gbit or 10 Gbit to the switch.

  • We suggest using this topology only playout or ingest workstations with very small data throughput, due to the fact that there is the limitation of one interface either 1Gbit or 10Gbit.

Connecting to the just:store web-based administration user interface for the first time

Depending on your network infrastructure you can access the just:store administration user interface from any computer via “em1“ or “em2“ as described above.

Once you have accessed the web-based just:store administration user interface, you can start to configure your sharepoints and the related required authentication. More Information about these tasks as well as the client setup instructions is provided in the Administrator Manual.

Info

Your temporary software license key has already been issued by ToolsOnAir for a period of one month (30 days).

In case that the commissioning of your just:store storage solution needs a time extension, please contact your Reseller or the ToolsOnAir Licensing Team to get a temporary License Key extension. Permanent License Keys will be issued upon final payment.

Before you start configuring the just:store AutoMounter please configure the just:store appliance before. Therefore, we created a Getting Started for the appliance itself.

Before starting the just:store storage appliance you have to connect the cabling. For more information please see the Getting Started.
